You will need to use the Respondus Lockdown Browser to take the exam. You can take the exam on a Windows 10 or a Mac with a webcam. The webcam is required and will be on during the exam. The Lockdown Browser does not work on Linux. It is your responsibility to find a PC or a MAC with a webcam to take the exam. You will not be allowed to use any other electronic device, such as another PC or a smartphone, or talk, text, or email to anybody during the exam. To download the Respondus Lockdown Browser, go to Canvas, then select Help, then select Download Lockdown Browser. When you run it, it will go directly to Canvas and ask you to login. Then, it will ask you to shutdown some programs, such as email. At the beginning of the final exam (on May 12 at 5:30pm) you will run the Lockdown Browser, will go to Quizzes, and then to Final Exam to take the exam.
There will be a Mock Final Exam available to you to take up to 3 times any time between May 1st and May 10. This is the final exam from Fall 2019. This exam will not be graded but it will be used by you 1) to test your equipment so you don't have any surprises when you take the real exam 2) to practice with the old exam so that you can prepare better for the exam. The actual final exam will be in the same style but of course with different problems. You are required to take this Mock Final Exam at least once.
In addition to the public chat during class, the professor will have office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30-7:0pm (before class) using private chatting. To talk with the professor during his office hours using private chatting, follow the directions below for office hours.
The office hours (either by the professor or the GTAs) will take place on the Canvas Conferences during the scheduled times (the GTA or the professor will initiate this conference at the scheduled time). If you would like to have a private talk during the office hours, please send a message in public chat and then onwards the conversation can proceed in private mode. We will try to accommodate as many students as possible during our office hours. If the GTA/professor is busy with other students, we will be setting our status as "Away". Appointments can also be scheduled as necessary and per the TA's/professor's availability. Please send email to us to book appointments.
Please note that it is recommended to use a Chrome or Firefox browser to access the Canvas Conferences interface. Please email us if you face any difficulty in accessing the class material or have any suggestion for improvement. Your feedback during the first week will help us improve and adjust the way we offer this course online.
XSEDE has kindly donated time on SDSC Comet for all the students in this class.
